Join us for an evening with a cup of tea in honor of Sir Harold Acton (1904-1994). Self-described “aesthete,” Sir Harold Acton was both an historian and writer known for his definitive texts on the end of the Medici dynasty, The Last Medici, and his prose set in Peking, China, Peonies and Ponies. As a host at Villa La Pietra, Sir Harold Acton loved to entertain friends and young scholars from around the world in the grand salone.

In honor of Sir Harold Acton, we will screen a short interview, filmed at Villa La Pietra in 1976, and read excerpts from his writings, selected and presented by NYU Florence students, Francesca Baldry, and Lisa Cesarani.

We hope you will celebrate Sir Harold Acton’s work with us along with free refreshments for a lively evening of intellectual exchange.
