From Eton to Oxford: Harold in the 1920s

created in collaboration with Francesca Baldry, Collection Manager.

This last section of the exhibition Growing Up at Villa La Pietra: The Adventures of the Acton Boys focuses on Harold’s transition from youth to adulthood, in the decadent years of the 1920s, as Europe emerged from the devastation of the First World War. His self-identification as an “aesthete” embodies a broader movement of intellectualism and dandyism in aristocratic European culture – a movement which Harold spearheaded at Eton and Oxford.
