Collage is the noble conquest of the irrational, the coupling of two realities, irreconcilable in appearance, upon a plane which apparently does not suit them. (Max Ernst)
Between found objects, memories and new imageries, collage is more than ‘cut and paste’, it is the art of metamorphosis, of combining and layering, of re-contextualizing, of connecting past and present, in contrast, collision and resumption, finding a personal visual language. The workshop offers an intense creative approach to collage by reflecting on representation of women now and then in a hands-on-experience using a broad variety of image sources from classic art to every day advertisement.
(Workshop for NYU Students only)
As part of the Picturing Women series.
